Kids Connect

This Bible time experience for children five years through sixth grade occurs during our 9:00 am worship service. Kids Connect takes breaks for Christmas, Easter and the summer months of June and July. When Kids Connect is on break the Pastor or a volunteer will invite the children to come forward during the service for a children’s message.

New to Kids Connect?

If you are new to Our Savior and would like your child to attend Kids
Church then here is a brief overview: Children go into worship with their parents. Just after the
opening “Call to Worship” the children are excused to go to Kids Connect where they’ll have
their own lesson and activities. Children return during the offering.

What if my child doesn’t want to attend Kids Connect but wants to stay in
church with me instead?

This is a wonderful “problem” to have. Don’t fight it. Keep them in worship with you. We’re not
offended if they don’t attend Kids Church. The ultimate goal is to have them in worship with
you! We LOVE having kids in worship and encourage families to worship together.

Why Kids Connect instead of traditional Sunday School?

At Our Savior we partner and come along side parents in helping them fulfill their role as
primary faith teacher. We strive to provide them with the tools, resources and time needed to do
so. At the end of each Kids Connect, the children are given Bible “take-away points” and
memory work to share with their parents at home.

The tradition of Sunday school began in the 1780’s as a way for churches to give children some
level of education on Sunday mornings who otherwise spent long hours working in factories
Mon-Sat. Over the years Sunday school has shifted the responsibility of teaching the faith from
the parents onto the church.

The Bible tells us who is ultimately responsible for teaching children the faith:

“Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”
Ephesians 6:4

“You shall teach them to your sons, talking of them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road and when you lie down and when you rise up.”        Deuteronomy 11:19

Therefore, we give parents the time on Sunday mornings to do what God has asked them to
do...pass on their faith and show their children how to worship. Yet we understand that
sometimes it’s hard for young children to sit through an hour of worship.  As a result we have a
happy medium...a break from worship called Kids Connect. Kids Connect gives parents a few
minutes to be spiritually nurtured themselves without the distraction of sometimes squirmy kids.

Benefits of families worshiping together

  • Children learn best to love worship by following their parent’s example. Worship isn’t something one learns in a classroom.

  • If kids stay in their “child only” programs (like Sunday School classes), when they get older worship will seem strange to them. They haven’t been taught about the “strange things” church does like liturgy, hymns, creeds and the Lord’s Prayer.

  • Statics show that if children do not attend worship as a child they are less likely to attend it as an adult.

  • Children are part of the congregation. Being in worship helps them know they are part of the community.

  • In our fast-moving society there are few things the family does together. Worship binds the family together and gives kids the time they crave to snuggle with mom & dad.
